Behind the Stitch
Also known as "Philly Philly", the Philly Special was an aggressive razzle dazzle run by the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII vs. the New England Patriots. Like many football plays, copies are seen throughout the league—when the acting and timing hit just right, one team's trick play stands out from the rest.
In the final game of the 2017-2018 season, the Eagles quarterback, Nick Foles suggested the Philly Special to head coach Doug Pederson at 4th and goal with 38 seconds left in the first half. With the ball snapped, pitched, and then reversed back, the Patriots were caught off guard as they watched the ball land easily in Foles' hands inside the endzone.
From Kelce to Clement to Burton, and back in the hands of Foles, the Philly Special represents the Eagles' fearlessness to push the limits, confidence in their team, and at the end of the day—their ability to have fun while playing like champions.
