Behind the Stitch

In 1972, the Miami Dolphins played an undefeated season with a 17-0 record under coach Don Shula. To this day, the team remains the only team in the NFL to complete an entire season without a loss.

Although it shows as a perfect season, the word really reflects around the team. Working as a unit, the 1972 Dolphins were backed by their "No-Name Defense."

Giving the players (and fans) a title they love, Dallas Cowboys' coach at the time, Tom Landry, dubbed the "no-name" defense reference due to the lack fo high-profile players. Led by coaches Bill Arnsparger, Mike Scarry, and Tom Keane, the celebrated defensive squad worked seamlessly knowing their strength comes as a pack vs. a single name.
