Behind the Stitch

Founder, player, and coach of the Green Bay Packers, Earl Louis "Curly" Lambeau is widely honored throughout the NFL.
Nicknamed after his curly hair, Curly was a rising star on his high school team to Notre Dame's field under coach Knute Rockne's first year.
Leaving ND after one year, Curly and his friend George Whitney Calhoun founded the GB Packers in 1919. Quick to climb the ranks from player to captain to coach through his championship victory 1929, Curly stepped off the field to continue as head coach through 1949.
Known for winning over 200 games, 6 NFL championships, part of the 1920s All-Decade team and a two HOF inductee—not to mention his influence in the passing game—Curly continues to be honored after his passing in 1965 as the Packers renamed their original New City Stadium to Lambeau Field, after the team's #1 legacy.
